Chapter 6 Response

Digital technology would be great to use in the classroom because it expands the learning capabilities of the students and presents them with many more opportunities to expand their knowledge. Digital technologies are attention grabbing for the students because of all the cool stuff they can do with it. A lot of the times it is something new and fun so the students want to do it. It’s not only an advantage for the students but it is also an advantage for the teachers. According to Judy Lever-Duffy and Jean McDonald, with digital technology teachers are able to scan materials for the class to see, take pictures for a lesson plan, create artwork, help auditory learners, use a stylus to write out documents on a tablet, using touch screens, or using an electronic whiteboard. All of these are advantages for teachers and students and really help the students have a good attitude towards learning. For teachers, there are many different ways to use each of these technologies and are all engaging for the students.

Chapter 11 Response

Audio technology can be very helpful to many students.  One traditional device that is very help for some students is the cassette recorder. With a cassette recorder teachers can find recorded books for their students to follow along with if they are just starting to learn how to read. Also, with a cassette recorder, teachers could record a lesson on a blank cassette and have it for students when her or she is unable to attend class. An emerging audio technology is Internet radio. Many people are unable to have a radio around them at all times and now they can through the Internet. Some Internet radio shows may have a topic that is being talked about on the show and is also being talked about in class. Therefore, the teacher may ask his or her students to listen to this Internet radio show. A traditional visual technology is an overhead projector. Overhead projectors have been around for a long time and have many uses. One use is for a teacher to put his or her notes for the class on it. A math teacher can also use a specially made calculator on an overhead projector to show the class how to use it. An emerging visual technology is Internet broadcasts. With Internet broadcasts teachers are able to teach class from a different location. Also, teachers could hook up with a classroom from a different country for certain lessons. All of these technologies present teachers and students with many opportunities.
